I don't have a photo of this two-sided project but it's not necessary. Just think of a small, quilted version of your favorite flag on one side, with appropriate backing fabric on the other. Quilt with something significant, such as the Olympic rings (I used a coffee mug to create them) and you're done!

This project is great for commemorating an international event or for helping a child with a geography or pen pal project. Most dictionaries or encyclopedias have a "Flags of the World" page on the inside front cover. I used a copy machine to enlarge the Norwegian Flag during the Lillehammer Olympics. Then I traced templates from the various portions of the flag and machine pieced them together in appropriate solid colors. I found some remarkable "world map" fabric I used for the back, but you could use a jungle print for an African flag, for example, or an English garden print for Great Britain's Union Jack.

My finished piece is 12 1/2" x 7 1/2" - it just happened that way for me, but you could make your flag quilt smaller or larger. Because it's two-sided, I didn't use a sleeve; I just push pins into the corners of whichever side I want to see. Enjoy!
