THE FABRIC OF THE AIR FORCE

As part of the 50th Anniversary celebration of the United States Air Force, a quilt representing each Air Force base was commissioned in 1997. The quilt followed a theme of "one Team-One Force-One Family."

Ruth's Block SSQA member, Ruth Biehl, (Panama City, FL) designed and made the block representing Tyndall AFB, FL.

Ruth's block, along with others from around the world, was forwarded to Randolph AFB, TX where "quiltmaker extraordinaire," Laguana Peterson assembled the quilt.

The "Air Force 50th Anniversary Heritage Quilt" is now on display at the US Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton, Ohio. Ruth had the opportunity to see the quilt on display this summer. "The completed project is very impressive and is a stop not to be missed by any quilter traveling in the area," Ruth said.
