Calling all quilters who
like a challenge……….
We would like to challenge you to make journal quilts for the next year.
What’s a journal quilt? A journal quilt is a small quilt that you make to
document an event in your life, an emotion that you are feeling, a time of
year, something you would like to remember, a new technique or maybe a
series exploring something of your choice.
The goal is to make a journal quilt for each month and to write a small
paragraph explaining the quilt, your feelings and/or the technique used.
The paragraph can be brief, just as an entry in a journal might be. The
field is wide open and the choice is yours for each of your quilts.
Our goal in doing the journal quilts is to challenge our creativity and to
have a display of our talents at the SSQA Symposium in September 2007.
If you are interested in making the journal
quilts, we ask that you commit to having a minimum of 5 quilts to display. Here are a few guidelines you
will need to follow:
-
The size must be 8 ½ by 11 inches – no
exceptions
-
The quilt must be portrait style – 8 ½
inches wide and 11 inches tall
-
Nothing can hang out or protrude past the 8
½ by 11 inches
-
The quilt must be three layers and quilted
in some manner
-
Each quilt must have a finished edge.
-
You are committing to have 5 to display at
the November 2006 annual meeting.
-
Simple display instructions will be given
at a later date.
-
Please label the quilts as you would
normally label any of your quilts
-
You might want to have your journal
description on the back of your quilt
If you are interested in participating,
please contact:
Paula sheron@totcon.com.
Note from Sharon:
I would like to have an idea of how many
are up to the challenge. I will be in contact throughout the year to keep
you encouraged, give more information or ask questions, and maybe light a
spark. Who knows, these quilts might be such a hit that they may be a
special exhibit in the future. (We can wish, can’t we?) Let’s have great
display and showcase our talents!
An entry form with information about
submitting your pages, and award(s) to be given, will be available early
next year. This
Challenge is open to all individual SSQA members.
