Pat Haas is a self taught fiber artist living in
Punta Gorda, Florida with her husband Richard since Jan. 2000.
She has been sewing since childhood and quilting for many years. In the early
1990’s Pat decided she wanted to try something different with fabric and began
making picture quilts. She loves the challenge of taking a photograph and
breaking it down into usable pattern pieces that can be made into a small work
of art. This led to the design of her own patterns.
Several of her fiber art pieces have won numerous awards at quilt and art shows
in Ohio and Florida. A recently completed scene with the “Old Florida” look
contains old oak trees with moss, thread painted birds and a path through the
woods near a reflecting pond.
Pat does commission work and also enjoys teaching classes and doing trunk shows
of her fiber art picture quilts. She likes the challenge of trying to capture
with fabric what she sees in nature and her surroundings. Florida affords many
opportunities to photograph beautiful sunsets, beaches and tropical landscapes
and Pat usually has three or four in various stages of completion.
She is a member of the Peace River Quilt Guild in Punta Gorda Florida, Art
Quilters Unlimited, Ft. Myers, The Sunshine State Quilt Association, the
American Quilt Society, the National Quilt Association. The Charlotte County
Arts and Humanities Council that honored Pat as Artist of the Month for March
2007.
