PAT LESTER
Vero Beach FL
Teacher ~ Designer

See Pat's Quilts below

Patricia (Pat) Mickey Lester has been interested in quilting for many years. She used a treadle sewing machine to learn sewing with her mother, Dorothy Mickey. Her grandmother, Trella Mae Mower Mickey of Pennsylvania was quilting by hand before her death, doing a “Postage Stamp” (one inch) quilt, which Pat now owns. After raising two children, Joseph & Annette and working for the telephone company in Maryland, Pat retired to Florida.

Pat took many classes from our wonderful teachers, Pat Campbell, Nancy Pearson, Carol Henry, Cindy Blackberg, Mary Sorenson, and Eleanor Burns to name a few. Pat travels throughout Florida to guilds, quilt shops, public schools, libraries, and youth centers teaching the joy of quilting.. Designing quilts has Pat’s imagination going all the time. Her designed quilts are hanging in public buildings and local club houses. The Educational Building at McKee Gardens has a mural quilt (101”wide x 41” long) depicting the garden as it is today.

Pat now lives in Vero Beach, Florida with her dog, Rascal (a Yorkie), who is a thief, stealing quilting fabrics, among other things. Pat has converted the spare bedroom, YOU GUESSED IT, to a quilter’s dream room. Pat has been the Treasurer of Sunshine State Quilters Association.
She is (now) the past President of Sunbonnet Sue Quilters ... became the Treasurer, and has organized their quilt shows from 1993-2005. In addition she has membership with The Stepping Stone quilters, National Quilters Association, The Appliqué Society, and American Quilters Society.

Pat has won many ribbons, has been juried into quilt shows. Her “Kissed by the Sun II” quilt is currently hanging in the Indian River County Courthouse as part of an art exhibit.

Her lectures and workshops are a friendly, fun time learning quilting.

"Celebration"

Designed by Pat
for St. Helen's Catholic Church, Vero Beach.
SSQA member Barbara Wienecke, Pat and several church members made the quilt to commemorate 90 years service to the community.
It is now encased in glass at the front of the church.

“The Friendship Star” is one of many classes offered.
Landscapes (can be from your pictures) or view Pat’s “My Window”. There are many ways to appliqué the pieces together, needle turn, fusing fabrics, many new techniques.
If you love to see flowers, look for “Hollyhocks in my brick Patio”, makes a lovely wall hanging or full size quilt. Create the brick patio and then apply flowers of your choice, add butterfly or a bird.
The “Oriental Moons” quilt was designed to use the many wonderful oriental fabrics available. Pat used of all things, coffee filters to make the perfect circles.
Have you ever seen a fish resting? Look at the stained glass approach to “Her Majesty at Rest”. She is fused in place then the leading (Stain glass look) is placed around the pieces. Like putting together a picture puzzle, takes time but so rewarding.
