You can be a Guild Rep!

Guild Reps are people who actively keep the information flowing between SSQA and their local group.

If you attend your guild meetings on a regular basis, you can share information with everyone. Chairmen and officers in your guild are looking for the resources SSQA has to offer...be sure they know about the "Teacher Profiles or the "Shows & Events"...not to mention the coverage of legal issues and other quilting news.

You can be sure the news from your guild gets back to SSQA. Find another guild to "Share A Teacher" or get your raffle quilt photo online...brag about your charity or celebrity members!

Check with your president about being a rep, then contact Linda lkoestel@cfl.rr.com

Every Monday at 10 am the members are doing something at First Christian Church on San Jose Blvd. The first Monday of the month is the board meeting (”An excuse to go to lunch” they say), the second is a Sit & Stitch or community service project, the third is the general meeting with an educational program, and the last Monday is usually a class day.

5 Yard Quilt class show & tell

Started in 1989, the guild has grown to 112 members  and includes quilters from beginner level to professionals (motto:" Where everyone can shine!"). Their on-going charities are Daniel Foundation (children’s quilts), placemats for Meals on Wheels, and support of the local food bank. They give over 50% of their raffle quilt funds to charities, such as Seamark Ranch (a home for children) or Hicken Foundation (assistance to women with breast cancer). Last year they sewed and filled 108 Christmas stockings for a variety of organizations, and made 15 quilts for the teenage boys at Safe Harbor.  This year they will be supporting Wounded Warriors with adult quilts.

All Star Quilters are one of the “seven sister guilds” who sponsor QuiltFest, a regional show of over 400 quilts, held annually in downtown Jacksonville. Later this year they will host a Quilt Discovery Day in support of the Florida Quilt Project. They also have a retreat near Silver Springs every year. This year’s retreat in May will be “Spring Cleaning”, especially devoted to UFOs. One fun event they had last year was “Mini-Quilts & Quiche”, a small show of small quilts with a fancy luncheon. Their 2009 challenge was quilted and embellished bras. Voting for Viewers' Choice was done with dollar bills, and the money raised went to breast cancer research.
