"I discovered quilting in 1979 when I was taken to a quilt shop in Berea, Kentucky by a friend. I had never seen a quilt before but knew that was what I wanted to do. After several years of traditional quilting I decided to do it my way and "paint" pictures in fabric. I also decided that I was not enjoying the process by constructing on the sewing machine. Since 1986 I have done everything by hand and thoroughly enjoy my work. I am not in a hurry and would rather produce quality than quantity. I tell my students to make all the quilts for the family by machine and then make all the quilts for yourself by hand.

Although many of my quilts have been very successful, it is the personal satisfaction that "makes my heart sing." My personal challenge is to do appliqué pictures in fabric without painting or dyeing fabric but to look at fabric as paint on a palette." ...Carol Meyer

Carol Meyer lives in Florida and New Mexico. When in Florida she and her husband have lived in a motor home but later this year they will move into a winter home in Charlotte County. Her company, Casita Roja Quilt Co. sells her art quilts and a line of pictorial patterns for quilters.

She has also had One-Person shows at the Venice Art Center in Venice, Florida and at the Eagle Ranch Art Gallery in Alamogordo, New Mexico. One quilt "Night Flowers" was purchased by the International Quilt Association as part of a collection that hung at the Hague in the Netherlands several years ago.
